Doctor's Visit

On Wednesday, we had our 2 month check-up at the doctor's. Jamie is now 11 pounds even (so he gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks!!). And, he is 22 1/2 inches long--he has gained 3 1/2 inches since birth. This puts him firmly in the 40th Percentile for both length and weight. He is now right on track and we don't have to go back to the doctor until his 4 month check-up! Yeah!! So, he is now a big, big boy and is fat and happy and eating a lot! He has changed so much since birth, it is absolutely amazing. He barely looks like the same baby and all the loose folds of skin have filled in with chub!

Wednesday was also his vaccination day--so it was a big day for James (and Mommy and Daddy). We have enrolled Jamie in a vaccination trial at the hospital so he is getting vaccinated for Hep B and 1 of 4 Meningitis vaccines (we won't know which one until the end of the study) in order to study the efficacy of giving these shots early (instead of Grade 4-7 for Hep B and 12 months for Meningitis) and the reaction of infants to a new Meningitis vaccine that protects against 4 strains of Meningitis instead of just 1 strain. This meant that he had to hold still for 5 needles--1 to take blood and 4 vaccine shots, 2 in each thigh (we are glad he has some chub now!!). We think he did pretty well. Jeff held him for all of it and he squirmed (and screamed at the vaccines) but a cuddle from his Daddy and a little snack from Mommy and all was well--so well that he fell asleep within 5 minutes of the last shot. Now, we have to keep track of his reactions to the trial meningitis vaccine. We have to record his temperature and reactions such as redness, swelling, vomiting, and fussiness for 8 days. So far, he has had no reactions--his temperature is normal and, except for the first night right after the shots, he has not had any injection site issues either (redness or swelling). So, we think that he has tolerated his vaccines very well and that it was probably much more traumatic (in the long run) for us than for him!

Below are some photos of Jamie playing the day of his appointment so you can see exactly what he looked like the day he turned "11 pounds".

He now plays and interacts with toys--he bats at them and tries to grab them. Look at his chubby arms and legs!!

" You see, Mommy, there is this funny looking baby who lives in this mirror and I have to keep and eye on him at all times!"

This is one of the 0-3 month outfits and it finally fits! In fact, it may not last much longer. I think he looks so long in this photo. Daddy is sitting on the couch and Jamie must think he is doing something really funny!

We no longer have to roll the sleeves up on this cute sleeper--it fits!

Bouncy Chair

As you can see from these, James loves his Bouncy Chair. He will now sit in it and be entertained for quite a while. It is also a good place for naps and photo-ops.

Again with the sleeping side-ways! This can't be comfortable, but oh well. This little bug outfit is the one James wore home from the hospital. It is now more of a kicky capri-outfit than a sleeper. What a big boy!

The beginnings of a little smile--more of a smirk really.

Big grin with his tongue sticking out! This is more and more the type of smile we are getting--huge! Something must be very funny!

" But, I can also be quite serious, Mommy!"

A Day in the Life

Here are some photos from a day in the life of Jamie.

Here he is wearing a big-boy outfit. He is good for a few posed shots but then it is "Game Over" and "No More Pictures, Please Mommy!!" Jamie has had enough.

After a tiring morning, Jamie decided to sleep in his bouncy chair--this is one of his favourite nap positions: all twisted to the side. Jeff isn't sure how this can be comfortable but it sure seems to work for Jamie.
The August Long Weekend here is "Natal Day" for the birthday of the city. From our dining room, we had a perfect view of the fireworks over the bridge (except for the fog). Jamie had the best seat in the house and, as you can see, held on tight to Daddy's hair.

Jamie has a new shirt from Grandpa Bob. Since Jamie makes the best faces while asleep, Grandpa thought "You Moose Be Dreaming." Very cute.

Grampa Bob and Gramma Lin Visiting Jamie

This last week, Grandpa Bob and Gramma Lin (Jeff's Parents) have been visiting Jamie and us --though mostly James. They took some time away from him to sight see (he was okay with it, really) and they saw a lot of Halifax, the harbour, and the surrounding area when they went on a day trip to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg (in spite of the pouring rain that day). We have had very hot and humid weather for the most part while they have been here (except the day they went on their trip, of course!). They have enjoyed visiting with Jamie. Linda was here in July when he was brand new but he is a totally different baby now--so FAT!!--and it was Bob's first introduction.

They both seemed to enjoy cuddling him and watching the many faces he makes throughout the day. He changed a lot even in the week since they arrived--his face has filled out more and he is more alert. He smiles more (and not just first thing in the morning) and he looks at things. When we change him in his crib now, he looks expectantly toward his mobiles (a Winnie the Pooh Mobile and an Ocean Wonders Mobile--he loves both) until we turn one on and then he stares at it intently while he is changed. That is a welcome difference from the screaming and wiggling that he always did before (he still wiggles and screams at some changes but not at all and the mobiles really help!). I have posted several photos (here and below) from the last week which will give you an idea of the faces they have been seeing. We had a great visit with them and we hope they had a good week out here with us too.

"I like relaxing with Grandpa Bob so much, I just fall asleep!" As you can see, Jamie is a very tense boy!

"We went for coffee with Gramma Lin and Grandpa Bob. It was very sunny so I had to wear a hat. I am not sure I like my hat!"

"Here I am with my Gramma Lin enjoying the sunny summer day!"

Three generations together! Come Back Soon Grandpa and Gramma!!

More Visiting with Grandma and Grandpa

More Photos of Gramma Lin and Grandpa Bob enjoying Jamie and his many expressions!

Yawny-Boy!

Alert-Boy!
Hi Grandpa Bob!!

Wakey-wakey sleepy-boy!

"I like relaxing with Grandpa Bob!"

A Happy Boy Playing with His Daddy!!

James loves to play with his daddy and is very happy first thing in the morning. All photos of him smiling were taken before 9am! Too bad for Mommy as I am NOT a morning person but I am gradually adjusting my clock. As you can see from the happy smile and milk drool, James really loves his breakfast!

"I love my breakfast! Mmmmhhhhh, Milk!!"

"What are you looking at? Don't be silly!"

"Usually I stick my tongue out too! We're sooo silly!"

Looking at Daddy: "What are you doing Daddy?"

These last two were taken on July 30th and 31st--he has filled out and we call him a big fatty but, as you can see, he is really still pretty slender!! I guess we will see on Wednesday how much he weighs.

New Quilt

Jeff's Mother, Linda, and the ladies in her quilting group made Jamie a baby quilt. As you can see, it is absolutely lovely and is great for tummy-time, wrapping for naps, and photo shots.

Jamie likes to suck his fist when he can find it. As you can see, he also is getting good at pulling his legs up under his body. When he does this, he almost looks ready to crawl (though he isn't) and this is also the pose right before he turns over.

"I like my new quilt and my duck outfit, Mommy!"

Full view of my new quilt!

Peacefully sleeping in my new quilt! I love relaxing!
